I think it is invaluable that a coach and athlete connect both in training and on a personal basis. To connect you have to find some common ground so it is important to get to know each other.

Coaches apply well-known foundational principles to training plans they tailor to their athletes’ abilities and race goals. However, training principles are only one of the necessary components required to succeed in endurance sports.
I believe that there are some characteristics that successful athletes demonstrate that separate them from other athletes. Athletes that demonstrate these characteristics seem to reach their potential and relish the journey getting there, while the others underperform and are constantly frustrated with their performance.
“There are no short cuts to anywhere worth going.” If you want to succeed in endurance sports you must be committed to achieving your goals.
2
Consistency
“It’s what you do in the dark that puts you in the light.” Consistency means finding a way to get it done while balancing life, career and family.
3
Confidence
“Confidence comes naturally with success but success comes only to those who are confident.” The mind is an important weapon in the athlete’s armory.
What are our clients saying about us?
Kim Childs Long
The best part of working with Al is the attention I get. He not only is available by phone, but he has made time to do workouts with me. He works beside me and has been able to give me a wealth of information just by watching me perform. We have completed cycling hill work, cycling endurance work, brick work, pre-run warm-ups, run form, run endurance, run speed work, and swim form together.

I met coach Alfonso by chance at a gym and have followed his journey as a triathlete since. He always gave me useful tips and corrections. I asked him several times to consider me as a future athlete and the day he started coaching I didn't hesitate to sign up as one of his athletes!!!
He is an excellent coach, mentor and trispiration. Under his training plan, I have conquered all of my personal fitness goals for this year. I have been pushed passed my mental limits and continue to be encouraged to achieve new and more ambitious triathlon goals.
With Coach Alfonso's guidance and training, I feel empowered to succeed.

Al has a passion for triathlon. He has this genuine desire to help any triathlete. When I met Al during my first open water swim, he stayed at my side until I was comfortable to go on my own. Since then, he helped me countless more times despite the fact that he was not my coach.
Since joining Team Strive, Coach Al has helped me grow as a triathlete in ways I didn't think was possible. He relies on objective data from Garmin, Training Peaks, and various assessments as well as with subjective reports from his athletes. His approach is scientific yet holistic.
It is evident in all that he does that he cares about each of his athletes.
